October 1—Green Bin Collection for Multi-Unit Buildings

green_bin

I’m delighted to be gathering compostable waste in a small green bin on our kitchen counter. Having lived on the land in the 1970s and 1980s, and having been collecting kitchen scraps for my daughter’s house compost collection for years, it’s great to have it happen where we live.
We took our first full brown paper bag of garden refuse and kitchen scraps down this morning. It feels great.
I find it intriguing that the regular dictionary that this WordPress blog uses did not recognize the word “compostable.” I had to check my spelling and in the process found a great site: World Centric: Zero Waste Solutions. It’s worth a browse.
Anyhow, well done City of Vancouver. I like this move.
