An Afternoon of Parlour Entertainment

Have you ever passed by Roedde House at 1415 Barclay Street in Vancouver’s West End. Or perhaps even taken one of their Sunday afternoon tours?

On Sunday February 26 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., you will have the opportunity to join a small group of visitors who will have tea, a tour, and an Afternoon of Parlour Entertainment, as per the turn of the century. I don’t mean the turn of the 20th Century into the 21st; I mean the turn of the 19th Century into the 20th. Roedde House was built in 1892 by the Roedde family from Germany and they lived in it until 1927; Nina Shoroplova’s and Jill Knight’s program covers music that would have been played as parlour entertainment during those years.

Here is one such piece sung by me, Nina Shoroplova accompanied by Jill Knight: “Vilia”.
