The film Camilla, starring Jessica Tandy, Bridget Fonda, and Hume Cronyn is an evocative lesson in the transformative power of revamping your life story – either stretching the truth or just describing it to others in a more appealing way or even making up a whole new past for yourself! For example, Tandy’s character would introduce herself as “The Camilla Cara,” rather than just Camilla Cara and then ask the person she just met whether they had heard her play Brahms’ violin concerto at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto or perhaps, just heard about it.
The way we see ourselves and express who we are certainly influences those around us. Our self-image takes its place in their eyes. If it was a raised self-image, highlighting things that make us proud, then their raised image of us raises our image of ourselves. There’s a circularity to the process. It’s to do with perceptions and it makes me think of “DIY Publicity Expert Nancy Juetten,” founder of Bye-Bye Boring Bios and creator of the Bye-Bye Boring Bio Action Guide. Here she is broadcasting for Youtube from her backyard deck in Bellevue, WA.
Move through “humility disease” and follow Nancy’s advice and Camilla’s example and blow your own horn!!
